INTERNSHIP

Equine Hospital De Morette, a referral center with board certified specialists in Equine Internal Medicine (ECEIM) and Surgery (ECVS,ACVS) situated near Brussels in Belgium. We offer 4 to 5 rotating internship positions per year.
All applicants have to be European citizen and they must be DVM or have an equivalent degree in Veterinary Medicine. A good knowledge of the English language is mandatory (knowledge of Dutch/French is an advantage).

What is an internship and which are suitable candidates?
An internship is a practical training program where graduated vets can apply the gained theoretical knowledge and strengthen their clinical skills. It provides a high exposure to a lot of clinical cases. The gained experience prepares the young veterinarian for high-quality service in practice or it is the first required step towards veterinary specialisation (Residency). The intern will assist under the direction of our Diplomats and recognised specialists. He/she will participate in providing medical and surgical clinical services as well as everyday emergency care. The program is a recognised “rotating” internship and the intern will be exposed to various disciplines (radiology, anesthesiology, internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics,…).
Interns will be encouraged to set and meet personal goals such as preparing case reports or scientific presentations.

The internship in Equine Hospital De Morette requires a certain autonomy and therefore candidates with previous working experience are preferred.
There is one place at a time for candidates without previous working experience in which they get the chance to grow towards an internship in De Morette or elsewhere (Fellowship, duration 3-6months). 

Duration internship: 12-16months depending on the previous experience of the candidate

To be considered as an intern, candidates are asked to visit as an extern for one week (preferably Monday – Sunday) to 2 weeks. Lodging is provided.

EXTERNSHIP

As a Veterinary Medicine Student (or recent graduate) you are welcome to visit the clinic for a period of 1-2 weeks with a minimum of 7 days (weekend included). You will be included in the daily routine of the hospital and you will be able to passively participate in consultations, surgery, night duties and care for the hospitalized horses. Lodging is provided. A good knowledge of English is mandatory to be able to communicate with everyone.

Students from Liège and Ghent University can book longer periods but therefore the amount of candidates accepted in one year is limited and your application might be refused for the entire 4 weeks since we want to give the opportunity to everyone to come. For periods of 4 weeks or longer please contact the clinic by email for the organization.

Your externship is only definite if you receive a confirmation email.

After booking the dates please send your ID card and a copy of your student card or diploma to internship@demorette.be. You have to provide for your own health insurance if you are insured through your school and documents need to be filled in, please send them as well.

We accept 2 visiting students at a time with possibly a third person who applies for the internship. In general we limit the duration of the stay to 2 weeks.
